New page

The Dune universe (or Duniverse) is the fictional universe (including characters, events and setting) created by Frank Herbert in his Dune novels. The Duniverse has been expanded through the Dune Encyclopedia, the New Dune novels of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the Dune movies and the Dune games. However, there is ongoing debate as to whether these later additions should be treated as canon alongside Frank Herbert's original novels.
Dune novels
The Original Novels
Separate from these novels Frank Herbert also published a book of poetry called Songs of Muad'Dib and a story called The Road to Arrakeen in the collection Eye.

The Dune Encyclopedia
Main article: Dune Encyclopedia

Edited by Dr. Willis E. McNelly, a long time friend of Frank Herberts, this collection of articles looks to explain and expand many aspects of the Duniverse. However, it intentionally contains incorrect information (as it is supposedly part of the propaganda that is the Rakis Horde) and was completed before the last three Dune novels, so many parts of it contradict the actual books. While officially it is not "canon" many fans take it to be so, preferring it over the recent prequel novels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
