This article is about the House. For the book of the same name, see Dune: House Atreides
House Atreides is a House Major in the Landsraad, and ruled a duchy based from the planet Caladan. In 10,191, under Duke Leto Atreides, it was granted the fiefdom of Arrakis by the then Emperor Shaddam IV, but was subsequently disenfranchised by an invasion by its arch-rival, House Harkonnen, supported by the Emperor's Sardaukar. It re-emerged in the space of three years, when the new Duke, Paul Atreides seized Arrakis and crowned himself Emperor. House Atreides continued to rule until the assassination of Emperor Leto II.
Origins
House Atreides claim Mycenean ancestry, as the direct descendants of Atreus, king of Argos on Old Terra.

Dune II
House Atreides is one of the three houses you can play as in Dune II. The Atreides Mentat, who gives you the mission briefings, is Cyril. The Atreides start out with less then a third of Arrakis under their control. During the campaign they steadily capture territories, forcing the Ordos and the Harkonnen to work together against the Atreides. In the final mission the Emperor joins the remaining forces of the Ordos and the Harkonnen to stop the Atreides from conquering the planet. They fail however, and the Atreides exile the Emperor for his meddling and take control over Dune.
The Atreides have the Sonic Tank as special unit, making them superior to the other Houses (including the Emperor) on long range. They can also summon Fremen reinforcements from their Palace.
Dune 2000
